Leather armor is a great and affordable armor for adventuring. You can even upgrade it with more exotic hides from the toughest of your enemies. Leather armor is great for sneaking in as it is far less noisy than plate or chainmail, and it's also easier to maintain, just rub it down with some shoe polish!
